Overview
Documents in Writerflow are editable in place. Open a document you own and start typing — there is no separate "edit mode" to switch into. Formatting, structure, and AI assistance are all available from the document canvas.
Formatting Text
Select any text to bring up the formatting toolbar. From there you can apply:
Bold, italic, underline, and strikethrough
Links
Text style — headings and paragraph styles
The Slash Menu
Type / on a new line to open the slash menu, then keep typing to filter it. Use the arrow keys to move through the list and Enter to insert. It offers:
AI write… — open the inline AI prompt
Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3
Bulleted list and numbered list
Quote
Divider
Code block
Press Esc to close the menu without inserting anything.
Inline AI Rewrites
To rewrite a passage, select it and either click the AI button in the formatting toolbar, choose AI write… from the slash menu, or press Cmd + / (Ctrl + / on Windows). A small prompt opens where you can describe the change, or use one of the quick actions:
Improve
Shorten
Expand
Fix grammar
Change tone
Accepting an AI Rewrite
The suggested text streams in as a preview next to your original — your document is not modified yet. When it finishes you can Accept it, Reject it, or Try again with a different instruction. Pressing Esc discards the suggestion.
Larger Changes
Inline rewrites work on a passage you've selected. For changes described in plain English across the whole draft, use Flo — see the Editing with Flo guide.
Note: AI rewrites consume AI credits. Typing, formatting, and structuring your document do not.
