GatherContent comparison

Writerflow vs. GatherContent

If you came looking for GatherContent, here is the short version: it is now Content Workflow by Bynder. Bynder acquired the product and later retired the GatherContent brand and website, folding it into its own platform. The software still exists and is still maintained — the name you knew is what went away.

Writerflow is content workflow software for agencies. It is not a like-for-like replacement, and this page is honest about that: Content Workflow is built for structured content production, and Writerflow is built for getting a named client decision on written work. Which one you want depends on which of those two problems is actually costing you time.

What happened to GatherContent

On March 3, 2022, Bynder announced it had acquired GatherContent, describing it as a content operations platform that helps teams get content created, reviewed, and approved.

On November 15, 2023, Bynder announced the rebrand. In its own words, it would retire the GatherContent brand and website, with all operations moved to the Bynder brand. Bynder stated at the time that existing customers would see no changes to the product, pricing, integrations, or support.

Today the product is sold as Content Workflow by Bynder, with its own trial. It integrates with Bynder's digital asset management platform, letting teams place approved DAM assets into long-form editorial.

Bynder splits the two jobs across two products: Asset Workflow handles approvals on assets, and Content Workflow handles the editorial side. Bynder's 2023 rebrand announcement said the product would stay available for teams on a different stack. That announcement is several years old now, so if you do not run Bynder's DAM, confirm the current terms with Bynder rather than planning around ours.

Choose Content Workflow by Bynder when

  • You need structured content templates with defined fields, because the output has to arrive correctly shaped for a CMS.
  • The work is a website build, replatform, or content migration where completeness and structure are the hard part.
  • Your organisation already runs Bynder for digital asset management and wants editorial content sitting next to the asset library.
  • Managing a large asset library is a core part of the job, not an occasional need.

Consider Writerflow when

  • Your deliverables are written client work, and the expensive part is getting a clear decision rather than shaping fields.
  • The brief, customer voice, revision context, named decision, and approved handoff need to stay connected around each piece.
  • An occasional client should get one focused place to review without joining a broader platform.
  • You would rather try one live deliverable than plan a migration onto a suite.

Writerflow does not manage a digital asset library and does not model structured content for a CMS. If either is the reason you adopted GatherContent, Content Workflow by Bynder is the closer fit and this page is not trying to talk you out of it.
